On the last weekend in March 2008, the Norwalk Historical Society hosted its first Women’s History Weekend in the c.1740 Gov. Fitch Law Office. Participants experienced various aspects of the daily life of Colonial women. A spinner demonstrated how wool hanks were processed and spun into fiber for knitting or weaving. Costumed interpreters also worked on hand sewing clothing and discussed 18th century clothing construction. Of great interest to our visitors was how the clothing was worn.
NHS would like to extend a special thank you to Rebecca Fifield, New York, NY; Amy McCoy, Danbury, CT and Kristin Negrycz, Monroe, NY for volunteering for the weekend and bringing women’s history to life for our visitors! |
